Filed under: EVENTS, NEWS — thebloomeffect @ 9:01 pm

SOUTHERN FRIED SOUL- this is how I describe the sounds and style of up
and comer MELISSA YOUNG. http://www.melissayoungmusic.com
She’s originally from Greenville, SC and resides in Atlanta.
She has all the grace and charm of a soulstress from The South and then
some.
Seeing her live is an incredible experience as Ms. Young truly touches the
hearts and souls of her fans and they leave yearning for more.
Ms. Young has her audience in the palm of her hands.
When you see her live- you will know exactly what I’m talking about.

Her debut album ‘Just up the road’ is a musical landscape of color, style,
love lost, relationships and heartfelt struggle and life.
It’s a collage of people, places and journey’s.
A collection of stories- this project shines and glistens all the way to the
end.
There’s hope, love, beauty, wisdom, faith and happiness ‘just up the road’.

Melissa is getting ready to embark on a W.Coast Tour and a few dates with
Dwele in California early October.
She’ll be shooting her first single/video back in NY for ‘Just a Girl’ end
of October.
So- Melissa Young- my new artist and one of my faves to work with – I adore her—and she’s so appreciative of my work– a rarity in the business these days…

She’s had a very successful run in NY- -been here close to 2 weeks in NY doing press, radio interviews, listening parties, meetings and performances.
She has intrigued and won fans over with her lovely grace and charm and of course gorgeous beautiful voice.
Look out for Melissa Young. She’s a rising star.

Want to thank some people who have truly supported her and my entity since the beginning of her trip to NY.

Thanks to Sagatiba and Milena who took me to a fabulous Brazilian restuarant last night.  I ate and drank to my hearts content.  The place is called Buzina Pop.  My friends Felippe and Renata joined from Imusica.  In town from Brazil.

After dinner Milena and I met Melissa Young at the Ja Rule special listening party.

His new album sounds really strong.  His style is nice.  Came out clean, in a suit and with a live band backing him and background vocals by the lovely talented Stephanie McKay so that was an extra treat.

That’s right- Me and Ja Rule.

Up next we ended the night at one of my fave spots — La Esquina.  It’s always a scene.

Southern Soul artist Melissa Young in NYC- -Her Debut

Filed under: EVENTS, NEWS — thebloomeffect @ 3:11 am

So I’ve been hanging with Melissa Young. We met a few months back. She tracked me down after seeing the work I did with another Atlanta artist Anthony David. http://www.anthonydavidmusic.com

Melissa just had to hire my services and I’m glad she did because so far– the set up for her debut album is just about perfect. The buzz is building and her profile is developing lovely and furthermore– I have one satisfied artist. Melissa is on the move.

http://www.melissayoungmusic.com

So I decided to get Melissa to NY to make some inroads- dig in the trenches and start spreading the power of ‘word of mouth’.

First show was last night at SUGAR BAR.

Her debut- we had a beautiful crowd considering it was the day after Labour Day.

Thanks to DJ Barry King on the one and two’s with the flavour of soul and our cross promotion efforts of co-producing. We’re both Brits.

Melissa Young gave a fine performance.

This was the first time I witnessed her live.

She has the charm and grace of a Southern Woman in every sense of the world and her stage show really connected with the audience. They ate it up. She really touched people individually- you could feel it.

Her band was tight- shouts to Teddy Crockett for MD’ing and orchestrating things.

Also on the bill were the talented Steve Wallace and St. Louis singer COULTRAIN who really woed the crowd– spectacular!

http://www.artforprogress.org is doing a big event during Fashion Week called The Art of Design

This year’s show will feature AFP members Lu Kun and Selma
Karaca. In conjunction with Art For Progress, Lu Kun is the first couture
designer from Shanghai to participate in fashion week. Karaca was the
2006 winner of AFP’s international fashion competition. The event will
showcase two of the most talented international designers.

Lu Kun is quickly becoming the newest fashion sensation in Asia,
especially since his recent participation in the Singapore Fashion
Festival in March. As winner of the “Best Young Designer in China” award
by the Shanghai Fashion Federation in 2004, he has become a growing
presence in the international fashion scene.

Selma Karaca, a native of Turkey and resident of New York City, was
educated in Fine Art. She began her fashion career as a milliner, selling
her artistic hats to high-end stores in Istanbul and Europe. Now her focus
is on couture clothing with luxurious hand-detailing. As a finalist in the
2004 Gen Art Styles avant-garde competition, she has become known not only
as a great designer, but as a true artist in a category all her own. She
was recently featured in the Queens Museum.

The Art of Design event will be held on September 6th, 2007 at the AVEnts
loft in Chelsea, and will be on the official Fashion Calendar.
The show is scheduled for 6pm with an after-party to follow. AVEnts is
located at 15 West 28th Street, 10th Flr.

RSVP to events@artforprogress.org or visit www.artforprogress.org for more
details.

MUDVILLE is at 205 Club this Friday, September 7th.
